Illustration Friday Entry – Mask

For this week’s Illustration Friday topic, Mask, I’ve decided to draw from William Shakespeare’s play Much Ado About Nothing. I really enjoy how the characters Benedick and Beatrice spend the whole play hating each other, when in the end they find (if they didn’t know all along) that they’re actually very much in love. This idea of hiding your true emotions brought to mind the idea of the masks we wear to hide how we truly feel.

This illustration is my latest addition to my product offerings in my CafePress site, “Lit Heads”. The shirts that have backs feature the quote from the play, “Friendship is constant in all other things save in the office and affairs of love.” Much Ado About Nothing, Act II, Scene I.

  1. Congratulations! Your illustration captures the spirit of the play like nothing I’ve ever seen. Our small, nonprofit community theatre is producing this play in our next season. May I please have permission to use your illustration in our promotional materials? I will credit you as the artist of course.
