Hello, I’m Dennis West. Thanks for letting me me introduce myself. After spending many years as a graphic/web designer, I decided to return to school, first to obtain a BFA in animation, and now to earn an MS in Instructional Psychology and Technology from Brigham Young University.
The decision to pursue the field of instructional design sprang from my years of creating appealing materials for marketing and training for products and services that I had little personal investment in. By redirecting my visual design and art skills into a field where I can apply them to develop enhanced learning experiences I believe I will be applying my creative energy to meaningful outcomes that can literally change lives.
My master’s project that I am pursuing consists of an expansion of my animation BFA senior project where I recreated a portion of the gothic cathedral in Amiens, France to present it in the form it had when it was originally constructed. The fully developed project will include a game engine simulation being developed in collaboration with Dr. Stephen Murray Columbia University to be integrated into their Core Curriculum. This simulation will include informational features that will teach key concepts related to the cathedral’s design, construction, and purpose.
I am particularly interested in enhancing art history and other learning subjects with informal-learning, interactive elearning environments.
Thank you for visiting my site. Please feel free to contact me at any time!
